Hong Kong loses the top position

A famous international travel magazine Travel and Leisure ran a survey recently. The result shows that Bangkok replaced Hong Kong as Asias Best City. For the best hotel category, Peninsula Hong Kong goes down to the 10^th position.

In one British survey, German tourists win as the best tourist from 24 countries. Chinese are in 10^th place and British are voted as the worst tourist.

The result of the Travel and Leisure survey, which ran from 28-Jan-02 to 22-Mar-02, shows that Sydney Australia is the Best City in the world. In this category, Hong Kong placed 10th behind Bangkok but ahead of Singapore and Beijing.

In the recent survey ran by this magazine, Bangkok won as Asias Best City, replacing Hong Kong which won the title in the same survey 2 years ago. Bangkok also placed 3^rd in the Worlds Best City category with Sydney on the first slot. For the Best Overseas Airline category, Singapore Airline is in the 1^st place followed by Cathay Pacific.

Peninsula Hong Kong also lost the top position in the World best hotel and Asias best hotel as well. For the Worlds best hotel, it slides down to the 10^th place. For Asias best hotel, it slides down to the 5^th place. With the same fate as Peninsula Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong also slides down to 44^th place in the Worlds best hotel category.

Included in the Worlds 100 Best Hotels are Inter-Continental Hong Kong and Conrad in 94^th and 98^th places respectively. Other Asian countries with hotels included in the Worlds 100 Best Hotels are Bangkok with 4 hotels and Singapore with 2 hotels. Boyer Les Craveres in France wins as the Worlds Best Hotel.

A report on the hotels around the world announced in February 2002 showed that Peninsula Hong Kongs position dropped from 2^nd to 4^th place. However, the result of the survey ran by asia-hotels.com showed that Peninsula Hong Kong is still the best hotel in Asia.

On the other hand, British travel web site Expedia.co.uk, send questionnaire to 26 countries tourist association. Asking them choose the best and worst tourist from 24 counties based on attitude, manner, expenditure, willing to speak local language, willing to try local food. German tourist wins as the best tourist. China and Netherland tourist are both at 10^th place. British tourist is shown as the worst tourist.
