Melco takes 7.5% stake in asia-hotels.com
Melco Int'l (200) announced it's 7.5% share
ownership of asia-hotels.com. It is the first time Melco has invested
in the Internet travel market.
Melco Chairman and Chief Executive, Ms
Pansy Ho, believes the investment in asia-hotels.com will help increase
Shun Tak Group's (242) and Melco's involvement in the tourism sector.
Asia-hotels.com Managing Director, Jon
Stonham, predicts that by 2005 bookings/reservations through the Internet
will reach US$54 billion (approx. HK$420 billion), and he hopes that
asia-hotels.com will benefit from this continuous expansion of electronic
commerce.
Asia-hotels.com is an Internet hotel guide
and reservation system, which provides information on hotels and resorts
in 17 Asian countries.
