Stayed at Metropole Venice - Venice, Italy.

Venice is very beautiful and romantic in every sense. I enjoyed going to concerts every evening. San Marco Church is a must to visit. Gondola does not look romantic any more.

Stayed at Berchielli, Hotel - Florence, Italy.

There are many family run Restaurants in the area to pick from.
The bus and train terminals are in walking distance. For side trips, heading towards santa Croce in the square you will find leather outlets.
Also across from the Duomo you will find a self service restaurant with good food and ice cream.

Stayed at Locanda Remedio - Venice, Italy.

Going off season, Venice was not crowded. We opened the Academia on Sunday morning by getting there at opening time. Crossing the Grand Canal by traghetto is like traveling on a gondola, only the real thing, shorter, and only 40 pence. Recommended.

For motor car racing enthusiasts the Alfa Romeo museum is a must.
A half mile from the city centre shopping is good value.

Do not visit restaurants around Piazza Vittoria and the tourist track to San Michele. The small Trattorias in the village have excellent food to reasonable price. Select the dish recommended by the owner and you can be sure that it will be delicious.

Stayed at Hilton Rome Airport - Rome, Italy.

Rome public transportation was excellent, but the streets and traffic were suicide. All information signs for instance at the Castel s'ant Angelo snack bar were either non existent or unhelpful.

Stayed at Best Western Hotel Pasitea - Positano, Italy.
|
We would recommend staying in Positano. It was our favorite town. We visited Ravello & Amalfi and although they are beautiful to visit, we felt Positano was the best place to stay.
We took a boat ride to the "Emerald Grotto". Once at the Grotto, you enter on foot and then line up for a smaller row boat. The entrance fee to the Grotto is separate. Don't expect too much from the Grotto. There was a slight green color in the water, but this is pretty much a tourist trap and somewhat of a disappointment. However, if you have never seen a water cave, then you may enjoy it. We did enjoy the boat ride to the Emerald Grotto. It allows you to see Positano and Praino from the sea.

Stayed at Aphrodite, Hotel - Rome, Italy.

What can you say about Rome? Noisy. Heavy traffic. Exhaust fumes. Expensive. Full of beggers, con-artists and pick-pockets. But we loved every minute of it. Must go back for a longer stay.

Stayed at Como - Como Lake, Italy.
|
I think it would be a good idea to have a map so you know where on the lake your hotel is located. If I would have known it was located so far south and in a secluded area, I probably wouldn't have booked it.

CLose enough to go into central Rome - there are shuttle buses from the hotel. Only stay here right before or after a flight.
