Stayed at  Bencoolen, Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
This was our second time in singapore so my wife and I purposely sought out sights and activities which we did not do on the first trip. We gave Sentosa island and the zoo a miss. We opted instead to check out the local wildlife and spent our evenings in Clarke Quay at the nightclubs Attica and Forbidden City. Both clubs are a great place to check out the fashion and attitudes of locals. We met some nice people and listened to some good d.j.s. On recommendation, we went to the Grand Hyatt for their Sunday Champagne brunch. It was amazing! One of the most lavish buffets I've ever had the privilege to indulge in. Tattinger champagne is free flowing as well. It's not cheap but well worth it. With our buzz, we caught an open-air bus and boarded the Duck Tour which took us on a city and water tour of singapore. Cheesy but kinda fun and a completely effortless way to see Singapore's highlights including the Merlion. The evening was spent having happy hour at the Longbar of the beautiful Raffles hotel. We shunned any shopping as we live in Hong Kong and the value and selection in Singapore pales in comparison to Hong Kong. The money you would over-spend on many items in Singapore could cover a cheap air ticket on JET ASIA or the like for the 3 hour flight to Hong Kong.

Enjoyed Singapore thoroughly. Everyone speaks good English and is relatively helpful - especially the cabbies. Desperately wanted to visit the Orchid gardens. Visited the Mandai Orchid Gardens that are next to the zoo. The gardens were smaller than anticipated, but nice variety just the same. Zoo was enjoyable. Cabbed it back home. Would suggest to visit the Botanic Gardens, instead of Mandai.

Went on the Cheung Ho ferry for the morning trip. They serve tea/coffee & take you out to Kusu island. Don't have high expectations for natural beauty. But, you will get a great rest & view of the skyline. You'll see tons of cargo ships in the ocean. Must go to the East Coast Seafood Center. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. The food is relatively inexpensive (compared to the US dollar), and quite good. Chili crabs are tasty!

Went to Little India, at night, and visited the Mustafa Center. This mall is open 24/7 - does NOT close. Unfortunately, however, I found there are a lot of men around this area of town and did not find this conducive to a family atmosphere. Perhaps it would be best to visit during the day. Skip "Arab Street" unless you are looking for material, or want to see a mosque.

Went to Emerald Hill to see the Peranakan culture - there wasn't anything to see. Only people's homes were painted in different vibrant colors. There were not shops to visit or edification to be done. Disappointing in that respect. Did visit the 69th floor of the Swiss Hotel for dinner. Arrived prior to sunset, took a few pictures, and watched the city light up as it got dark. Also, would suggest to visit the Funan IT mall. In addition to the wide variety of goods, the basement food court has a great variety.

We had just a few days, and so took a stroll into the centre. If you take Cairnhill Rd. (cross the road outside the hotel at the traffic lights) it meets with Orchard Rd at about the mid-point after passing through a more traditional colonial district. From here you can proceed into the centre. The Trolley tour (not to be confused with the Singapore Airlines Trolley) combined with the Bumboat tour gives a good introduction to the city, after which you can decide where you would like to further explore. A brochure is available in the hotel.

Stayed at  Meritus Mandarin Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
The "Top of the M" restaurant at the Meritus Mandarin is a great spot for a meal, as it's a revolving restaurant with views over Singapore. Beware as the restaurant has wandering minstrels (which everyone else was tipping) although if you don't want music at your table they do leave you alone. The menu has restaurant has a definite retro feel about it but the food was pretty good.

Stayed at  Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
A definite must try for curry lovers: Muthu's Curry and Banana Bay Leaf on Race Course Road in Little India. Take MRT to Little India and walk on Race Course Road until you find the place. Surely the best Indian food in town.

Stayed at  Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The - Singapore, Singapore.
We had dinner at the Equinox Restaurant which is at the top of the Westin Stamford Hotel. Quite pricey (£100 for2) but excellent food. Champagne was good! We also had dinner at the Lotus Restaurant on the Singapore River at Clarke Quay, again an excellent meal.

I recommend the following tours and places in Singapore. Tour of Sentosa Island and the night light show. Must try the Singapore Sling at Raffles at the Long Bar. You can book this tour with lunch locally. It's cheaper this way. Night Zoo Safari and Singapore at Night by canal Boat from Clarks Quays. Bugis Street and Chinatown for best of bargains. I suggest to go there during the day and avoid crowds and it's safer. Avoid Orchard Road shopping if you are on budget. Mustapha Shopping Centre (Little India) for best prices on electrical and household goods. The voltage is the same as in England.

Stayed at  Meritus Mandarin Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
The Heritage Centre in Chinatown was very interesting and larger than it seemed from outside. Needs an hour and a half or so to do it justice. The zoo is the best we've been to. The Brazilian churrascaria restaurant "Carnivora" at Chijmes was fantastic for meat eaters with a healthy appetite.

Stayed at  Carlton Hotel Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Orchard Road was not my cup of tea: just a string of large shopping malls, similar to what we have in Australia. On the advice of some locals, I shopped for an iPod at Sim Lim Square; I recommend it as the place to shop for consumer electronic gear.

Can you see SINGAPORE in one day? It depends on your level of travel in Asia - having just 2 nites and 1 day to sightsee I chose my destinations carefully. Early a.m. I took the MRT (train system) to the Harbor stop which was about 15 minute ride in comfortable A/C underground wagon where I would connect to the cable car running into Sentosa. The ticket cost was about $1.40SD (singapore dollar) - although you are required to deposit an additional $1 as card deposit (or you could buy the $10 tourist one-day pass which allows you for 4 rides or so). There are two choices for the cable car - all glass or regular - the additional $5SD for glass is unnecessary. The ride is short but provides for a bird's eye view of the area.

Sentosa is a beach, museum, aquarium and showcase location. You can spend most of the day there or you can stay in the many resort hotels in the island. I highly recommend the Underwater world (aquarium) with their many exhibits and a close encounter with the pink dolphins at the Dolphin Lagoon. In the afternoon, I adventured to Chinatown by MRT for some shopping altho' if you have traveled to other asian countries - you could bypass as they offer the same type of trinkets are higher prices. The best deals are found in tailored clothing made in just a few hours. From Chinatown, I headed to Clarke Quay (by MRT)for a river cruise ($17SD) to view the many buildings and the famous water spouting lion. Here you can find several dozen restaurants, pubs, clubs for entertainment ... Stop at "Indochine" for a nice atmosphere. A day in Singapore can not be completed unless you visit Raffles Hotel and enjoy a delightful Singapore Sling at the Long Bar ($16SD) - there are many restaurant on the Raffles campus or you can go across the street to the Chijmes complex for more restaurants/club scene.
