Langkawi is a beautiful island with many pristine and empty white sandy beaches and blue clear water. Covered in jungle it has a truely mystical atmosphere. In one sentence this island is an excellent place to spend a very relaxing holiday.

The island of Langkawi is a very beautiful island. I can imagine that one day the township will offer interesting shopping and activities for tourists - however at the moment it is pretty boring.

The cable car ride was really good. The view was great and definitely worth a visit.

There are some nice restaurants around the hotel by a few minutes walk.

Langkawi Island was a great place to visit. We used taxis to get around, and found them plentiful and easy to get, also very inexpensive.

We loved the restaurant at Casa Del Mar, also a nice little place down the road called Bon Ton and a great Thai restaurant 400 meters in a mangrove swamp called Barn Thai, we highly recommend this place not only for the walk to restaurant, but the great food and service.

We took the new cable car ride to the spectacular peak overlooking the island and loved it. Also took an evening cocktail cruise offered at the hotel and thourghly enjoyed it. If you're planning a trip to Malaysia, this island is a must.

Prices are very low, food portions are good, people are friendly and almost everyone speaks some English.

For those who have time it better to rent a own driven transport and get the map of the island and experience the interesting places at your own sweet time.

Stayed at  Datai Langkawi, The - Langkawi, Malaysia.
We recommend the Thai House, but you have to make reservations beforehand. As Taxis are not available near the Datai, you have to rent a car from the hotel.

The resort was isolated, which was what I was looking for - beautiful setting and serene. Really enjoyed the mangrove tour, eagle feeding, and sea kayaking. The restaurants were excellent, though a little pricey

The island of Langkawi unfortunately did not give us a very good impression. There was a lot of rubbish thrown out everywhere along the streets. People just didn't seem to care about their environment. This made me sad, because the island really was beautiful, but all the rubbish made it look ugly.

Anyway, if you want to buy some electronic equpiment, this is a good place to do it. Go to Khua Town and visit all of the shops in the central parts, they have a lot of nice handicraft shops too.

Some good restaurants I would like to recommend are T'Jays (Italian), they had the best pizza I have ever tasted, and The Eagle's nest with exceptionally good steaks. Both of them are at Pantai Tengha and Pantai Cenang. They also had a lot of good Malaysian and Indian food along those two beaches (roads).

We also went to the northern part of the island, to Jang Rhua beach, because we had heard the water was supposed to be much more cleaner there. It wasn't. Sometimes it was so dirty it was impossible to see your own hand under the water surface. But the beach was much cleaner than Pantai Thenga and Pantai Cenang. From here we took a boat trip to see the Mangrove area and the eagle feeding area. We also had a look inside some caves and saw bats hanging upside down, sleeping. At the end of the day we were dropped off at a private island beach for an hour or two. Sadly this small island was as full of rubbish as Langkawi was and the water was the same.

We heard that the only place where everything was much more cleaner was up in the northwest part of Langkawi, around the Andaman Datai Hotel, which is a five star hotel (very expensive), but unfortunately we never went there to see if that was true.

Finally I would NOT recommend anyone to visit the Crocodile Farm or the Snake Farm if you are not interested to see poor unhappy animals taken from their natural environment into captivity and treated in a cruel way. Carola Lidström in Kiruna, Sweden.

Hotel set on very nice beach with lovely beach. Water quality poor at time of visit - did not look inviting to swim in.
