Langkawi features some of the best beaches in Malaysia; highly recommended for water sports.

Lankawi is a nice destination for relaxation. Pantai Tengeh is a really nice beach but Cenang seems to be busier and has more restaurants/bars etc but no shade on beach in day.
Not many activities etc on Langkawi. We went on a 1/2 day island hopping trip which was fun but the islands were a bit poor. The aquarium was poor. The waterfalls are not really worth visiting in dry season according to locals. Lovely sunsets!!

There is nothing worth making the effort to see on Langkawi. If you want a week off in the sun doing nothing but eating, sleeping and relaxing then this is ideal. That's what we wanted....that's what we got.

Car hire was easy and cheep - little traffic and good roads. The cable car ride at Oriental Village looks amazing but is shut on windy days - worth checking before you go.

The island of Langkawi is a great getaway. It has solitary beaches and serene jungles as well as more lively areas with restaurants and shopping areas.
I took two reasonably priced tours offered through (but not by) the hotel: the jungle canopy tour (with Jurgen, a resident German and weekend hypnotherapist--a fun guide!) and the mangrove forest boat ride (with Jeffri, a laid-back and very knowledgeable Malay guide). I was quite pleased with both tours.
There was plenty else to do, but I preferred to spend my time on the beach. I got through three books, and couldn't be happier about it.

Do not go to Pulau Payar with East Marine in order to snorkel. This beautiful islands is too small to bear thousands of tourists which are brought thereto and even more pityful, it is polluted by them.

Didn't see the main city of Langkawi but the whole island is easy to get around especially if you hire a small motor bike. Duty free grog shopping is quite cheap especially at Ceneng Pantai shops and the restaurants have a great variety. Not much if you want a clubbing party till dawn type holiday.

A lot of places around which can be reached in half an hour time.. water fall, beaches, historic places, galleries and a lot more fun if you want to have fun.. also on shopping... sea activities are also good around here.

Langkawi is a beautiful place to visit. They have more than 5 beautiful waterfalls, clean beaches, good food and not to forget on their night life.
Since it was a short vacation, we rent a car. It was very convenient as we get the car at the jetty point itself. We took a map with us. The map helps us a lot to move from one place to another.
If you love "ikan bakar" (BBQ Fish), it is best for you to go to "Pantai Chenang" (Chenang Beach). Otherwise, there are a lot of stalls selling seafood with very reasonable price in Kuah town. As for accommodation, the scenery at Awana Porto Malai Resort very peaceful and at reasonable price.
From Langkawi Jetty, one can go to Thailand with one hour ferry ride. Of course, when we reach Saturn, Thailand, we need to take a trip down to the beaches. Saturn is like a small cowboy town.

For Langkawi, I feel the seafood a bit expensive and I didn't feel any Duty Free in Langkawi. Also disappointed with the promote I heard on Langkawi especially from our PM it not happen!
