The locals were very friendly and helpful. Especially, En. Rahim, the Taxi Organizer at the hotel. Great value for a tour around the island. Not much shopping to be done on the island, unless you are interested in purchasing duty free items like cigarettes and alcohol.

I would recommmend staying on the main Langkawi island where there is more choice and variety.
Good restaurant on main Langkawi Island is the Barn Thai which is a eco-restaurant that serves Thai food. It is located in the middle of a mangrove swamp and reached by a wooden walkway.

Langkawi is a very small island but it can keep you busy for a week. Its sceneries are worth the journey!

Stayed at Tanjung Sanctuary Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.

Langkawi was what we expected - warm, humid and beautiful, but beware the weather in December/January is quite wet.
Recommended tours:
Hire a car. Malaysian cars (Proton) are available for MYR220 for 3 days. Gas is almost free. See water falls, local markets, the crocodile farm, and find your own beach.
Island hopping (half day) was also great.

Langkawi is a great place to visit. The island is filled with legends, and the is a story behind every interesting place you visit. I got the chance to visit the crocodile farm...only to know that it is the largest in Malaysia. I have never seen so many crocodile in my life. Shopping is another attraction in Langkawi, most everything are cheaper than most anywhere in Malaysia.

The places literally "on the beach" were the best of all for night-time food.

We took a tour to Payar Island and would recommend it. There are various and lots of fish and you could feed them! Our children enjoyed it the most. Also, night market tour is good to experience.
We went on Friday, to Kua town by taxi - as the night market tour bus was already fully booked - but it was not inconvenient at all. Hotel concierge arranged us the taxi and the return fee to and from Kua town was MR40, and it would have costed us the same, if we, 2 adults, would have gone on the tour. Kua town itself is good to see, apart from the heavenly Tanjung Rhu once, there are many people, shops, and local restaurants.

The 4-wheel drive jeep is not clean enough before hired to us. The road signs are clear enough. Seven Well is highly recommended but unfortunately we could not find Barn Thai Restuarant due to road sign problem, I heard it is very special.
